WINNIPEG — It was a busy news week across the province. From a severe storm that ripped through southern Manitoba, to a heat wave that had many blasting their air conditioning; the weather certainly was wild. If you missed any of the news, here are the top five stories Global News Winnipeg covered.
Tornado touchdown
Wicked winds, rain and hail caused significant damage across the southern part of Manitoba Wednesday evening.
Environment Canada confirmed a tornado touched down in Long Plain First Nation and New Rosedale, about 20 km south of Portage la Prairie, causing extensive damage in the area.
On Friday, 5,000 Manitobans were still without power due to the storm.

Andrea Giestbrecht trial
After a dramatic week in court, Andrea Giesbrecht’s trial is on hiatus until the end of August, in order to give her husband sufficient time to get legal advice.
Giesbrecht is charged with concealing the bodies of six dead infants inside a storage locker.

Heat wave
On Wednesday, Environment Canada issued a heat warning for the southeastern half of the province. The heat and humidity helped prompt a severe thunderstorm for the south of the province.

Masked teenager
A woman wearing a mask was arrested after waving a gun around at the corner of Portage Avenue and Main Street Tuesday morning. Police said that the gun was determined to be a replica handgun.
She is facing numerous charges.

Deadly highway
There were two fatal crashes in two days on a small stretch of Highway 6 in Manitoba.
On Monday, one person was killed just south of Warren and on Tuesday another person was killed in a head-on collision just north of Woodlands.
