Tenant of Harry Doyle’s Fredericton house may need to find a new home

FREDERICTON – One of the tenants of a home belonging to a Fredericton man murdered in the Philippines last month says he’s in limbo, waiting to learn if he must find a new place to live.

The former home of Harry Doyle, on Union St., is up for sale.

But, Logan Stairs says he doesn’t know what’s going to happen to him now that Harry has been killed.

The 62-year-old businessman was shot to death Aug. 12, while spending time with his family at a beach resort, not far from where they live in Surigao City.

Stairs says the Fredericton home has been on the market for a while, but says Harry has come back to town and stayed at the house with his family twice since he has lived there.

He says this is the time of year the Doyles would usually come back to visit..

“He’d come by and stay here from mid-September, then go back to the Philippines near the first of December,” Stairs says.

He says he has fond memories of Harry and his wife, Jane, who Filipino police consider a suspect in the murder.

Stairs says he was shocked by the news, which broke last week.

“She’s really nice,” he says. “Like, Thanksgiving last year she cooked up a big Thanksgiving dinner for everyone in the house.”

Jane Doyle has been back in Fredericton since Aug. 25, the day after a memorial service was held for her husband.

Philippines National Police investigators have filed documents in a local court, alleging she is one of four suspects.

Police also say she was having an illicit affair with one of the other suspects, Jerome Tanora Devocion, who was employed by Harry Doyle as a driver and bodyguard.

Jane has been staying with a friend since arriving in Fredericton, but Stairs adds the other tenant of the house says she has dropped by.

“I think she was just checking on the house, getting some papers and stuff,” he says.

Harry’s sister, Joan Doyle, told Global News Wednesday Jane is six to seven months pregnant and dealing with the loss of her husband.

Joan says the family considers her innocent until proven guilty and will treat her sister-in-law with the respect and dignity she deserves.

Jane told the Fredericton Daily Gleaner earlier this week she wants to tell her side of the story, but wishes to do so with her lawyer present.

Her lawyer, Ron Morris, has not been reachable for comment.

Meanwhile, police in the Philippines say they plan to request Jane Doyle’s extradition back to the country.
