Vancouver Airport adding yoga space to domestic terminal

Need a stretch before heading on that long flight? Vancouver International Airport has a room for you.

YVR and YYoga have announced a new pilot program that will provide a free yoga space for departing passengers.

Organizers of the space say the self-guided room can be used to practise yoga, meditate, or just simply stretch before departing on a flight to any domestic destination on Fridays throughout the summer.

“We know that passengers are looking for a variety of wellness options when they travel,” says Kim Halowski, manager of sales and services at Vancouver Airport Authority. “Adding a tranquil yoga space to this year’s YVR Take-Off Fridays programming allows us to offer experiences that appeal to different travellers and continue to enhance the passenger experience at YVR.”

While there won’t be any yoga instruction, there will be a YYoga instructor on hand to welcome participants and offer pose and stretch suggestions.

Kicking off on July 15, the space will be open between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Fridays until Aug. 26.

The program, dubbed YYoga@YVR is part of the airport’s Take-Off Fridays summer series.

The unique initiative follows a popular move to install a pet restroom announced in June. The pet-friendly restroom features a puppy potty and a grass floor as well as features to allow easy access for people with disabilities.
