Search widens for missing Winnipeg man

Police continue to search for Hirenkumar Patel who has been missing since Sunday night. Facebook

WINNIPEG — Family and friends of a missing Winnipeg man are planing a massive search.

Hirenkumar Patel was last seen Sunday night, when family says he left his Fort Garry home for his shift at an East Kildonan 7-11.

He never made it to work and his wife says they are growing desperate for any news of him.

“I just want to have him home,” Hilpa Patel said.

Missing posters with his image are going up across the city and a larger search will happen tonight.

Anyone who can help is being asked to gather at the Hindu Temple at 999 St. Anne’s Road for 6:00 pm.  Cars will then ‘fan out’ from there to various locations.

Connie Muscat, who’s friend Thelma Krull disappeared last September, is helping the family organize the search party.

“I feel their frustration about not understanding what to do, not knowing what to do and I know what that feels like,” Muscat said.  “I can imagine if that was my husband.”

Winnipeggers are asked to keep their eye out for a red Hyundai with the license plate KUSUM, which is the name of Patel’s mom.

Tonight searchers will be looking in both Fort Garry, where he lived, and East Kildonan, for any sign of the car.

“Because he was last seen in a vehicle and never arrived at work…and it’s such a large area, we will start by car. If they see anything like tread marks, they will then likely get out on foot.”

Muscat has brought with her the maps used in the search for Krull, and has also helped the family create a Facebook page where people can go to with any information.
