WINNIPEG — If you head to the cottage or go camping regularly in Manitoba, you probably aren’t very happy with the weather we’ve seen so far this summer.

It certainly “feels” like we’ve had more precipitation than normal this month, but have we?

June typically is the wettest month in Manitoba.

So far in June, 101 millimetres of rain has fallen in Winnipeg. The usual rainfall total for the month is 90 mm.

So the answer is yes, we’ve had more rain, but not by much.

Most of our precipitation has fallen over the weekend, which makes a big difference when planning outdoor activities this week.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

If you compare rainfall numbers to those of 2015, we were well below normal. Last June only 65.2 mm fell.

In June 2014, there was 147.1 mm of rain. A soaker. That doesn’t necessarily tell the whole story through. There was a two day period in the middle of the month where almost 70 mm fell alone.

Ok, so above average rain for June in Winnipeg.

How about the temperature?

The mean temperature this month is typically 17 C. So far we’re sitting at 17.4 C as our mean (the average of the maximum and minimum temperature at a location for a specified time interval).

We did hit the 30 C once this month. On June 10 the temperature reached 30.3 C, and on June 9 we were close to 29.3 C.

The good news is as we head into the July long weekend we are currently seeing plenty of sunshine in the forecast. We have a chance of showers Tuesday evening but daytime highs will slowly climb to near 30 C by the weekend.

Keep your fingers crossed!

  • Dauphin 81.7 mm (normal) 54.9 mm (to date thus far).
