About 2,600 people lost power in west Edmonton Thursday evening after a potent storm rolled in, according to Epcor.

A company spokesperson said around 7:30 p.m. crews were called to the area between 149 Street and 165 Street and 92 Avenue and 103 Avenue to restore electricity.

Epcor said repairs were expected to be completed by 10 p.m.

The City Edmonton remained under a severe thunderstorm watch around 9 p.m. Thursday evening. Environment Canada had issued a severe thunderstorm warning earlier in the evening but it was dropped around 8:30 p.m.

According to Environment Canada, a severe thunderstorm watch means “conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.”
