POINTE-CLAIRE – Pointe-Claire’s 33rd annual softball tournament took place in Valois Park.

For the past few years, tournament organizer Eyal Artzy has picked a cause to raise funds for.

This year, like the last, he chose the Lakeshore General Hospital.

“The Lakeshore can definitely use extra funds,” said Artzy.

“They serve a very wide area and as we know, the Quebec government is cutting on funds all the time. So anything we can help, I’m sure will make a big difference.”

The tournament is a long standing tradition for many, including Kevin MacIver and his team from Lennoxville, who have been coming to Pointe-Claire for the past 33 years.

“As they evolved, it became a charity tournament and that meant just as much for us, because it wasn’t about winning the tournament and winning the money, it was about getting together and being able to play,” said MacIver.

“It just brings that much more meaning to us.”

22 teams participated this year and Artzy hopes to match last year’s target of $7,000.
