EDMONTON – Alberta’s Justice Department has been cleared of allegations of “gross-mismanagement” and political interference made by a former chief medical examiner.
Dr. Anny Sauvageau made the allegations in 2014 when she worked for the Progressive Conservative government.
Public Interest Commissioner Peter Hourihan says Alberta Justice did not commit wrongdoing under the Whistleblower Protection Act and there was a lack of evidence of political interference.
But in his report released Friday he cited poor management practises in the department.

Sauvageau says in her complaint that she was pressured to top up body transportation contracts with funeral homes by millions of dollars to appease the Alberta Funeral Services Association.
She says her contract wasn’t renewed after the government learned that she had filed a complaint with the Public Interest Commissioner’s office.
