You’d expect those who give out traffic tickets would obey the rules of the road but a Ocoee police officer in Florida was ticketed May 12 for “failing to obey traffic laws.”

According to Orlando Sentinel, Officer Chris Bonner was travelling at 145 kilometres per hour chasing after a stolen car which was used in two armed robberies.

A video, released by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), shows Bonner racing through a red light and crashing head on to another vehicle.

The other driver, Yahaira Castro Montalvo, says that she is planning to sue Ocoee police after both her arms were broken in the accident.

“I’m just worried about my health right now because I can barely do anything,” Montalvo told the Orlando Sentinel. “I just want to get better. I don’t want anyone to go through what I went through.”

It’s the policy of Ocoee police to make sure intersections are “clear” before driving through red lights.

According to the Ocoee Police Department, Bonner had to undergo several surgeries for the injuries he suffered because of the crash and has started a Go Fund Me page to raise to help pay for his medical expenses.

Ocoee police told the Orlando Sentinel that the incident will undergo an internal investigation once FHP hands over more data.

In the end, the vehicle they were chasing escaped.
