Rush lacrosse club raising $50K for Fort McMurray wildfire aid

SASKATOON – Donations to aid Fort McMurray wildfire evacuees during this time of need will be accepted at the next Saskatchewan Rush home game. The team is trying to raise $50,000 at Game 2 of the Western Final at SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon

The Rush are partnering up with Finning Canada for the fundraising initiative.

“Finning is very proud to partner with the Saskatchewan Rush to support our employees, customers and friends in Fort McMurray, a community we have been a part of for over 50 years,” said Tony de Sousa, vice-president of Saskatchewan for Finning Canada.

To raise money, lacrosse fans attending the playoff game against the Calgary Roughnecks on May 21 will be asked to contribute at least five dollars. Donors will receive one of 10,000 “limited edition” light sticks.

All proceeds raised will go towards efforts to rebuild fire-ravaged Fort McMurray, Alta.

Game 1 of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) Western Final is set for Saturday, May 14 at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Tonight marks the first ever playoff game in Rush history since the franchise relocated from Edmonton to Saskatchewan this past off-season.
