EDMONTON – Residents of Strathcona County now have a new one-stop drop-off station for all of their household waste for eco-friendly disposal and recycling.

“Our residents, our council, our staff, our regional leaders have joined together to celebrate the building of this facility as a victory towards reducing waste going to the landfill,” said Strathcona County Mayor Roxanne Carr.

A grand-opening celebration was held at the Broadview Enviroscience Station Saturday.

“The Broadview Envirostation is a great example of how we can work together federally, provincially and locally to reduce pollution to protect our planet. It reflects {a} movement internationally, that we can do locally as well,” said Strathcona-Sherwood Park MLA Estefania Cortes-Vargas.

The eco-station cost $6.3 million dollars to construct.

The station accepts all items that are not included in curbside collection, like electronics, paint, batteries, motor oil and tires.

There is also an area to drop off yard waste as well as a bin for recycling clothing.

The station has been open since February and since then over 600 televisions, 16,000 litres of oil and over 500 computers have been dropped off.

The station is located on Broadview Road in Sherwood Park and open daily until mid-October.
