Thunderbirds vs Rockets Friday night in championship series opener

KELOWNA – The Kelowna Rockets and the Seattle Thunderbirds took to the ice Friday morning at Prospera Place in team practices for game one of WHL Western Conference Championship.

Puck drop is 7:05 p.m.

The regular season record between the two contenders indicates a tight best-of-seven series.

The Rockets and Thunderbirds tangled four times with each skating away on home ice with two victories.

Kelowna finished the regular season at 48-20-4-0.

Seattle was 45-23-4-0.

In advancing to the Western Conference Championship, the Rockets had to eke out game seven, overtime victories against Victoria and Kamloops.

The Thunderbirds beat Prince George four straight and downed Everett in five games to advance to the championship final.

Saturday’s game two is also at Prospera Place with the series shifting to Seattle Tuesday and Wednesday.
