SASKATOON – Work continues on two major bridge projects in Saskatoon. According to city officials, a substantial amount of work has been completed on both the North Commuter Parkway Bridge and the new Traffic Bridge.
Clearing, topsoil stripping and ditch excavation is already underway for the twinning and extension of Central Avenue to intersect with McOrmond Drive as part of the parkway project.
Officials said two clay berms have been installed through the swale to prevent water from entering the work zone. Work there is being monitored by an environmental consultant and being audited by the city’s technical advisor.

As for the bridge, all regulatory approvals have been received to begin in-river construction. Construction of the first bridge pier is underway and expected to be completed by August.
Construction will mean traffic restrictions in the area starting in May.

Crews are also busy at the Traffic Bridge site as they refurbish the south pier in the river and drill piles to build the south abutment.
During the spring and summer, crews will reconstruct the southernmost pier, build the new north and south bridge abutments and construct the steel structure for the southernmost span.
Both bridges are expected to open in 2018.
