A Minnesota woman has bestowed the title of “World’s Meanest Mom” on herself, after putting her 15-year-old daughter’s truck up for sale on Craigslist.
Amy Adams was trying to teach her daughter a lesson when she posted the ad for a 1998 Dodge Ram on the popular online classified ads site on Tuesday.
“She was on her ‘one more chance and the truck was getting sold,’” said Adams told KARE in Minneapolis. “She blew that one more chance on Monday when she decided to skip school.”
Adams posted the truck for US$2,750.
“I started that ad with ‘So, I’m the meanest mom in the world.’”
Adams showed her true mean side when she offered to provide a $300 discount if the buyer was a classmate at her daughter’s school.
“If the person driving the truck on a daily basis will be attending North Branch high school next year, you will get a $300 discount. Why? Because I AM the World’s Meanest Mom, and would love for her to be reminded every day next year of all of the mistakes she made.”
Adams says the ad was not done out of retribution or spite, but intended to teach her daughter a lesson in responsibility.
“Where are they gonna be in life five years from now, 10 years from now, when they’re wandering around disrespecting the wrong people,” said Adams.

“The World’s Meanest Mom” received more than 400 responses to the ad.
“Over half of them were just other parents saying, ‘Hey, high-five.’”
That is the reaction Adams hopes most people have to the post.
“My 15 year old daughter has decided that her grades don’t matter, that she can disrespect myself and her siblings on a daily basis, and that she has the right to skip school and run away from home, I currently have every teenage kid’s dream vehicle up for sale (because it’s titled in my name, I can do that, you see).”
Adams says the punishment is something her late mother would have done to her.
“To my mom, I was short tempered and I was snippy, and I was obnoxious,” she said.
Adams admits that she didn’t always make it easy on her own mother, but eventually learned that tough love is sometimes the best kind.
“The moment they diagnosed her as terminal, we had that conversation,” Adams remembers. “She’s been gone for, it will be 10 years this July.”
Adams has confidence her own daughter will come to a similar realization.
“I hope she realizes that it’s OK to discipline your kids,” Adams said. “It’s OK to have expectations, and it’s OK for them to have consequences.”
The ad has since been removed twice after being flagged by friends of Adams’ daughter.
