2 pedestrians injured in separate Montreal collisions

MONTREAL – Montreal police are investigating after two pedestrians were struck by cars in  separate collisions on Friday night and early Saturday morning.

The first incident happened at 8:20 p.m. Friday in the borough of Rosemont-La-Petite-Patrie.

A 78-year-old man was hit by a car as he was attempting to cross Jean-Talon Street East, between Saint-Hubert Street and de Chateaubriand Avenue.

According to police, the pedestrian was crossing in the northbound direction when he was struck by a vehicle heading west on Jean-Talon.

The victim was taken to hospital in critical condition with serious head injuries.

As of Saturday morning, the victim remained in critical condition.

Police have ruled out speed and alcohol as contributing factors in the collision.

Pedestrian injured on Saint-Denis Street

In the second incident, a 41-year-old man suffered multiple injuries after he was struck by a car travelling South on Saint-Denis Street.

The car struck the pedestrian shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of Saint-Denis Street and Mont-Royal Avenue.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The 29-year-old driver was arrested at the scene for alleged drunk driving and taken to a detention centre.

Police spokesperson Daniel Lacoursière said the suspect refused to take a breathalyzer test.
