A two-vehicle collision just south of Highway 1 east of Calgary left two people dead and two people in hospital Saturday morning.
Strathmore RCMP said the crash happened at 7:14 a.m. on Highway 797, approximately two kilometres south of Highway 1.
Two people – a 19-year-old man and 28-year-old woman from Langdon, Alta. – were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. STARS Air Ambulance flew a third person to a Calgary hospital with serious injuries. A fourth person was taken to hospital by ground ambulance. The two remained in hospital Saturday afternoon.
RCMP said Highway 797 was going to be closed for several hours and were asking drivers to avoid the area. It was reopened to traffic by 2:15 p.m.
Strathmore officers and the RCMP Collision Analyst are investigating.
The names of the people involved in the crash have not been released.
