York Regional Police have come to the rescue of three deer that fell through the ice on Lake Simcoe north of Toronto, lassoing the animals with a rope and yellow harness to pull them to safety.
Const. Laura Nicolle says police were called just before noon Monday by someone who saw the deer walking on the ice around a half-kilometre offshore and then falling through.
She said the marine unit and fire department responded and hauled the deer out of the icy water.
Nicolle said the animals don’t appear to be injured and were released.
Police are using the incident to remind everyone to stay off the ice.
