The lawyer for the Harvard-educated executive accused of stabbing a concierge at her apartment building says his client has no memory of the alleged incident.
Ellis Kirkland, 60, faces a series of criminal charges including attempted murder after allegedly stabbing the 67-year-old man Thursday morning in her upscale Rosedale neighbourhood.
Her lawyer John Nunziata — a former Liberal MP — said Kirkland doesn’t recall what happened.
“Her state of mind was such that she just doesn’t remember anything, which suggests that she lacks the criminal intent required in these matters,” he said Monday after Kirkland’s court appearance.

Kirkland has been sent to CAMH hospital for a 7-day psychiatric assessment and is due in mental health court next Tuesday.
In addition to attempted murder, Kirkland is charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and weapons dangerous to the public peace.
Const. Allyson Douglas-Cook said the concierge has been released from hospital in stable condition.
Kirkland was arrested Thursday afternoon after a standoff with Emergency Task Force officers who repelled down from the 28th floor of a hotel and apprehended her from the balcony after she threatened to jump.
Kirkland was formerly the chair of the City of Toronto’s Bloor Viaduct Safety Committee, which lobbied for a suicide barrier on the bridge.
The renowned infrastructure specialist was also a vice president with the NATO Association of Canada.
