NEWMARKET, Ont. – A drunk driver who killed three children and their grandfather took the stand at his sentencing hearing in court Wednesday but not before the Neville-Lake family abruptly left the courtroom ahead of his statement.
Marco Muzzo has not spoken publicly about the crash last Sept. 27, though his family issued a statement expressing their regrets and condolences.
“I will spend the rest of my life attempting to atone for my conduct,” Muzzo told the court on Wednesday. “I will forever be haunted by the reality of what I’ve done. I am truly sorry.”
“I know there is no step I can take to bring back your children.”
Muzzo, 29, pleaded guilty earlier this month to four counts of impaired driving causing death and two of impaired driving causing bodily harm.

Nine-year-old Daniel Neville-Lake, his five-year-old brother Harrison, their two-year-old sister Milly, and the children’s 65-year-old grandfather, Gary Neville, died after the van they were in was hit by an SUV in Vaughan, Ont.
The children’s grandmother and great-grandmother were also seriously injured in the crash.
Their mother, Jennifer Neville-Lake, looked directly at Muzzo on Tuesday as she said his actions have shattered her world.
