KELOWNA–A man is without a place to live after the car he had been sleeping in went up in flames near Orchard Park Friday night.

Jode Toews, who had been staying in his Lexus SUV this week while he searched for a job, is confused at what caused the vehicle to spark.

“I plugged my phone in to charge it, went for a short walk, got halfway across (the mall parking lot), and smelled smoke. I looked back and it was on fire.”

The Kelowna Fire Department was quick to the scene, putting out the fire before it spread. No one was injured and they say the blaze isn’t suspicious.

Toews says the flames immediately engulfed the vehicle.

“It looked like it started in the front.  It was a nice car,” says Toews.
