A bizarre shoe-shaped “church” has popped up in Taiwan, capturing attention from around the world.
The Cinderella High Heel Church was apparently built to attract female worshippers, but Taiwan’s Central News Agency reported that the building has no religious function and is an art installation meant to entice female tourists.
Located in Chiayi County, tourism authorities from the Southwest Coast National Scenic Area Administration wanted to use the footwear design to commemorate those who were affected by blackfoot disease in the 1950s.
“Now with the shiny structure, we hope to deliver a message of happiness to the people yearning for a bright future,” tourism spokesman Cheng Jung-feng told FocusTaiwan.
The shoe is described to have more than 100 female-inspired features within and around the structure, such as “chairs for lovers” and “biscuits and cakes.”
The gigantic glass slipper seems to be a hit with locals and tourists.
