EDMONTON – A federal maximum-security prison in Edmonton is under lockdown following the assault of an inmate.
The Correctional Service of Canada says the lockdown was put in place at Edmonton Institution on Wednesday night and remains in effect.

It says a search was ordered to ensure the safety and security of the institution, its staff and inmates.
Normal operations are to resume as soon as it is considered safe.
