VAUDREUIL-DORION — A small-scale Montreal designer is heading to Hollywood in January in the hopes of getting her big break in the fashion industry.
Kerry-Ann Busreth is one of a handful of up-and-coming designers who’s been picked to showcase her handmade scarves at the pre-Golden Globes gifting suite.
“I never dreamed of anything like this,” said Kerry-Ann Busreth.
“It’s really unexpected and wonderful.”
The Vaudreuil resident first started making scarves as a hobby three years ago, when her aunt lost her hair during cancer treatments.
Most of her creations are colourful wrap-around scarves that can also be worn as head scarves or sarongs.
The local designer never imagined business would blossom all the way to Hollywood.
“It means I’ll be going to L.A. at the Luxe Hotel on Rodeo Drive,” said Busreth.
“From what I understand, celebrities really like brand new designers so that way they have exclusive products.”
The 40-year old is already working on a special scarf for Leonardo DiCaprio, even though there’s no guarantee he’ll attend the event.
“I’m creating one especially for him, hoping he will come,” she told Global News.
Busreth works as a civil servant by day and spends most of her free time on her new designs.
She’s currently working on 50 unique creations to take to the pre-Golden Globes event.
Her family has set up a crowd-funding page to help cover the production and travel costs, estimated at $10,000, but Busreth and her husband said they are more than willing to fork over their life savings – if it means building her brand and catching the eye of at least one celebrity.
“I’m proud of her, we never expected this would happen,” said Busreth’s husband, Herluck Blemur, who insists DiCaprio is no threat.
“I’m married to her, so no need to be jealous.”
