Update: Man dies after falling from roof in Calgary’s southeast

CALGARY – Occupational Health and Safety have confirmed a 54 -year-old man has died of his injuries in hospital after falling between three and four meters from the roof of a business. It happened just before 11 a.m. in the 5700 block of 84 street S.E.

According to EMS, the man was rushed to hospital in critical, life-threatening condition with various injuries. EMS said the man landed on the gravel ground.

“It is unclear at this point, at least from an EMS perspective, if a medical episode precipitated the fall, or the relationship of this individual to the workplace,” said a statement from EMS spokesperson Adam Loria. “It is also unclear if safety mechanisms were being utilized.”

Loria said Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) are aware of the event.

The business where the incident occurred was McLean Lumber Sales.

According to OHS, there has been a stop work order placed at the work site.
