Snow! A Frosty Fairytale set to premier on Kelowna stage

KELOWNA, B.C. – Theatre Kelowna’s holiday production is a made-in-Kelowna original.

Written by Kim and Jim Rhindress, Snow! A Frosty Fairytale is an endearing story about caring for the environment and taking responsibility.

“If you don’t care, bad things happen,” says Kim Foreman-Rhindress. “And that everyone has a voice and everyone has a responsibility to do their best.”

Foreman-Rhindress, normally a lead in local stage productions, has taken to directing in recent years.

“You know, I love directing,” she says. “I love acting, but it’s a totally different animal.”

The couple began collaborating on the stage production script earlier this year.

“We just sat around the computer and giggled and threw ideas out and it was easy,” says Rhindress. “It was fun.”

His wife agrees.

“It’s just been the best experience,” says Foreman-Rhindress. “We work really well together. It’s been quite effortless.”

The tale is set in a town where snow has yet to arrive on the eve of winter celebrations.

Mother Nature, the snowflake sisters and Jack Frost have a dilemma on their hands.

Cousins Fiero, Scorch and Brunella, it turns out, have been up to no good.

“They get their hands on indifference dust and they start systematically dusting the sisters so they don’t care about doing their job.”

Foreman-Rhindress wanted to keep the show balanced between fun and the moral of the story.

“People hear things better when they’re laughing and singing along,” she adds. “It resonates and it sticks with them more.”

The couple are planning to publish their original script so other theatre groups can put on the show in their own communities.

They also hope to attract attention of animators to see it made into a movie.

The story is meant to appeal to all audiences.
