WINNIPEG — After being a healthy scratch with the Winnipeg Jets the past two games forward Nic Petan has been re-assigned to the Manitoba Moose.
At least it was a short trip for Petan who made his first appearance at Moose practice on Thursday morning.
“It was exciting to have opportunity to play there for the games I did,” Petan said. “And it was a good experience and just looking forward to the opportunity to come down and get back to normal minutes I think and you know get my feet going.”
Petan, 20, appeared in 14 games with the Jets and was informed of the decision following the Jets victory on Wednesday.
“Just got called in and you know I don’t think it was a negative,” said Petan. “I think you just got to stay positive and I think just get some minutes in. I think you know get some confidence in myself. I think like I said before I’m just excited to have a chance to be down here and play my first game tomorrow.”
The Jets 2013 second round draft pick scored just one goal and didn’t register any assists but will give the Moose some much needed firepower.
“It obviously adds to your skill level, there’s no doubt about that,” Moose head coach Keith McCambridge said. “It gives your powerplay a chance to get somebody that again is real comfortable running it off the half wall.”
The move will allow Petan to see a lot more minutes after being used in a fourth line role with the Jets, but McCambridge cautioned he’s still just a first year pro.
“Nic is a very special player along with a lot of the other players we have in that dressing room with the Moose. But we have to keep in mind that he’s still young, hasn’t played a lot of minutes in his first year to date. We are going to definitely increase the amount that he plays here but still it’s going to take a little bit of time to get comfortable at the pro level.”
