SASKATOON – An annual holiday campaign kicked-off Monday in Saskatoon. The Secret Santa campaign is an annual initiative that provides gifts on Christmas Day for hundreds of families across the city.
In addition to toys, donations include books, cash and food baskets.
Mayor Don Atchison kicked off the drive and emphasized how campaigns like Secret Santa help the community.
“I think it’s absolutely great. It just goes to show you the spirit in our community,” said Atchison.
“We talk about a city of bridges but it’s really building bridges of hope for a lot of children and that’s what it’s all about, making that special day for them and for everyone in our community. So it’s a great start to the Christmas season and the holiday season.”

This is the 32nd year for the Secret Santa campaign. It was started in 1983 by long-time radio personality Denny Carr, who wanted to ensure every needy child in Saskatoon had a new toy for Christmas.
Anyone wanting to contribute can do so by dropping off an unwrapped toy at various locations around Saskatoon including city hall.
