Some people got a bit of a surprise in eastern Poland over the weekend after a fireball lit up the night sky and one driver caught it on his dashboard camera.
The bright streak of light rises in brightness then becomes a green streak across the sky before finally fading.
The fireball, or bolide as extremely bright meteors are called, is likely part of the Taurid meteor shower that peaked over the weekend. Normally the Taurids don’t produce many meteors an hour, but it was expected to produce bright fireballs — such as was seen here — this year.
The American Meteor Society received numerous reports not only from Poland but from Germany, the Netherlands, Czech Republic and Austria as well as Denmark.
