Busy Halloween night for Metro Vancouver police

Halloween night proved to be a busy time for police and first responders across Metro Vancouver.

A number of investigations are underway, including a case in Surrey where a three-year-old boy was hit by a vehicle while trick-or-treating.

The boy was crossing the road with his mom at around 7 p.m. when they were hit by a pick-up truck near 62 Avenue and 134 Street. Both mother and child were rushed to hospital. RCMP say the toddler suffered leg and head injuries. It is not known if alcohol, speed or darkness contributed to the crash.

In Delta, police are investigating an altercation at a Halloween party that ended with a man being stabbed near Arpe Road just before midnight. The victim was taken to hospital and is considered to be in serious but stable condition. A suspect is in custody. Investigators are working to determine a motive.

In Vancouver, a limousine crash at Granville Street and West 12th Ave at around 2:45 a.m. sent two people to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Surrey RCMP said they were responding to nuisance calls throughout the night.

Police said they were prepared for a hectic night, since Halloween fell on a Saturday. While it was busy, police reported there were fewer serious incidents than they anticipated.
