The force is strong on Halloween weekend at Comic Con

WINNIPEG — There’s never a shortage of impressive costumes at Comic Con, but there are many more reasons why thousands of people attend the event every year.

“I can’t even walk two feet without someone stopping me for a picture, and the faces of the kids that are just in awe makes you feel great,” said a man dressed as Optimus Prime.

The lineups were already well underway when the event kicked off Friday. This year they’re expecting over 40 thousand people throughout the weekend, and excited for some new features as they prepare for a major expansion.

“Something that has amazed me is our vendors have really stepped up this year,”Brian Mitchell with the convention said. “When you come into the exhibitor room, the caliber of displays has really stepped up from the years before.”

The event lands on Halloween weekend this year which means higher attendance and even more people in costume.

“People they work so hard on their costumes and they get a chance to wear them not just for one day but two or three,” Mitchell said.

For one first timer dressed as Captain America, the event exceeded his expectations.

“It’s so much fun, I can’t believe all the stuff I’m seeing here. All the shirts, comics and action figures are awesome.”

Central Canada Comic Con 2015 runs until Sunday evening at the convention centre.
