A local volunteer basketball coach is facing a handful of sex-related charges after allegedly engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a player on one of his teams.
37-year-old Dean Matthew Vigon was a coach for a number of organizations in Calgary.
He’s been charged with two counts of luring a child via computer, and one count of each sexual assault, sexual interference with child under 16 years, invitation to sexual touching with a child under 16 years, sexual contact with a youth by a person of authority, making or publishing child pornography, possessing child pornography and accessing child pornography.
Vigon was arrested at his home on Wednesday, after an investigation was launched by Calgary police in March.
The offences are alleged to have happened between September 2008 and July 2011.
Vigon worked as an assistant coach on the SAIT Trojans women’s basketball team for the 2011-2012 season, and also coached the Calgary Christian School Varsity Girls Basketball team for three years.
In addition, Vigon coached a U15 and Open Division club team for Calgary Basketball Academy.
The father of four is a co-founder of the Calgary Basketball Academy.
