Mayor John Tory declares Oct. 27 Blue Jays Appreciation Day

TORONTO – Mayor John Tory has proclaimed Oct. 27 Blue Jays Appreciation Day in honour of the team’s regular season performance and memorable playoff run this year.

“This season, especially in the last half and the playoff run, the Blue Jays made the city cheer.  It made the city believe. It brought the city together as kind of one city,” Tory said during a press conference Monday morning.

The Jays finished the season with the second best record in the American League and made it all the way to the championship series before losing in Game 6 against the Kansas City Royals.

It was the team’s first playoff appearance since winning the World Series in 1993.

He also said he was grateful for the support at the Bird’s Nest at Nathan Phillips Square where fans gathered in the hundreds to watch the playoff games.

“I never got a chance to meet the mayor but just knowing what was going on at the Bird’s Nest, I think it was great that he did that,” he said.

“It’s a credit to the interest level and the fans.”
