REGINA – Saskatchewan will be adding facial recognition technology to driver’s licences come next spring.
Saskatchewan will now join all the other provinces that are using recognition technology in their driver’s licensing program.
SGI’s current five-year contract for driver’s licenses expires at the end of March 2016 and after that time Veridos Canada Inc. will begin to produce the new licences.
Facial recognition technology will provide enhanced security and is useful from protecting against fraud. The new licence should also prevent suspended drivers from using a false identity to obtain one.
