It was a dramatic scene on the New Westminster waterfront Sunday afternoon when a Good Samaritan jumped into the Fraser River to try to rescue a man.
It happened around 1 p.m. at the foot of McKenzie Street near the quay.
A group of people walking on the pier spotted a man in the water and one of them jumped in to help.
Firefighters had to use ropes to retrieve the pair.
The Good Samaritan was not injured, but the other man was taken to Royal Columbian Hospital in grave condition.
There is no word on how he ended up in the river.
