REGINA – The University of Regina has set a new record for enrolment.
The latest numbers show there are 14,360 students enrolled at the U of R and that the number of Aboriginal and international students continues to grow. This marks a 3.3 per cent increase over the previous year and the seventh straight year enrolment has increased.
“The University of Regina has made a concerted effort to encourage Aboriginal and international student enrolment, and those efforts appear to be paying dividends,” said University of Regina President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Vianne Timmons.
“Student supports such as the services provided by the Aboriginal Student Centre and UR International help ease students transition to university life. These supports also contribute to our success and campus-wide indigenization.”
Of the 14,360 students registered at the school 12,612 are at the undergraduate level and 1,748 are at the graduate level.
There are 1,666 registered Aboriginal students – an increase of 5.8 per cent over the previous year. Over the last five years there has been a 63 per cent increase in Aboriginal enrolment.
The U of R also has 1,971 registered international students which amount to 13.7 per cent of the total student population.
International students generate more than $20 million in revenue for the school.
