The Provincial Government says it has imposed a $115,000 penalty against a Surrey landlord who failed to properly maintain his rental property – but it will not identify the landlord.
Despite numerous orders the landlord failed to repair several problems in the apartment building – including a leaking roof.
A government official says the identity of the offended landlord is protected by privacy regulations.
The province says this is the first ever, “administrative penalty” imposed under the Residential Tenancy Act.
While the provincial government will not release specifics of the case – more details were outlined in an earlier B.C. Supreme Court decision.
