TORONTO — Uber wants its Toronto fans to push their city councillors to keep the ridesharing service running.
The petition asks Uber users to ask their councillors to “vote YES on Sept. 30 to ensure ridesharing regulations can continue to benefit our great city.”
The online petition has set a goal of 50,000 signatures and the petition has 23,000 signatories in Toronto.

Mammoliti struck back.
“Uber has accused myself and another Councillor of trying to end their business, which is misdirection,” he said in a statement. “But if Uber wants a fight, we will give it to them. Uber can criticize me all they like but at last week’s Licensing and Standards Committee meeting I was outspoken in representing the needs of my constituents, which is my mandate.
“Now, the gloves are coming off.”
Mammoliti said he and the taxi industry will make an announcement on Tuesday about their plans for “a fight that Uber won’t want.”
Last week, the city’s Municipal Licensing and Standards committee vetoed sections of a staff report that would let UberX operate legally in Toronto.

The report will be brought to City Council on Sept. 30.
