LETHBRIDGE – Students are back at Lethbridge College. Tuesday, the institution held its orientation which saw over one thousand students make their way through the college’s doors. It was an exciting day for both students and faculty.
“We’re so ready, we’re excited and so are the students,” said Shelley Carter Rose, Director of Student Services. “It’s really about getting to know your teachers, knowing the staff, the scheduling and the program expectations.”
Many students are making a difficult transition – going straight out of high school to college.
“I’m learning a lot of information, that’s good to know,” said first-year nursing student Evan Stacey. “(It) keeps the nerves down, I’m kind of nervous. It’s been a very welcoming and warm atmosphere.”
Students had the chance to listen to distinguished alumnus Troy Reeb, Senior Vice President of Global News. Reeb was named the Distinguished Alumnus in 2003, and was Tuesday’s keynote speaker.
“It’s not all about the academics and the piece of paper you receive at the end,” said Reeb. “It’s really about the relationships you develop with your colleagues, the friendships that you make that will sometimes last a lifetime. Those networks that you develop can sometimes pay huge dividends, if you invest yourself in them both intellectually and emotionally.”
In total, over 4,700 students have registered in credit and apprenticeship programs for the fall semester, which officially begins on Wednesday.
