Family grappling with news Vernon death was foul play

VERNON – The idea that police believe her brother’s sudden death involved foul play just doesn’t make sense to Terri Lynn Hardy.

“He was a lover not a fighter. He loved life. He loved his life. He didn’t go looking for trouble. Trouble sometimes would find him but he didn’t go looking for it,” she says.

The body of Jason Hardy, 42, was found in Vernon’s Polson Park last Wednesday morning. His untimely death came as a shock to his older sister.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“My heart is still breaking like every time I speak of him because I miss him so much,” says Terri Lynn. “His laugh was just contagious and he was always laughing.”

At first investigators weren’t sure what had killed Hardy. The morning his body was found police said there was no obvious cause of death. After an autopsy was completed on Monday, RCMP confirmed they now think he met with foul play.

Police are asking the public for help. Investigators hope anyone who saw Hardy, or anything suspicious in the park area in the hours before his body was found, will come forward.

His sister says Hardy grew up in Ontario but moved to B.C.’s interior years ago and at various points had made his home in Grindrod and Sorrento. He did drywalling for a living but was not working at the time of his death.

“He was a great guy. He was always laughing. His laugh was contagious. He touched a lot of lives and everybody will remember him,” she said.
