SASKATOON – Her sentence sparked public outrage and the victim’s families called it a joke. Nonetheless, the Crown in the Cheyann Peeteetuce case has decided not to appeal the six-year sentence handed down by a judge in June.
In May 2014, Peeteetuce killed Sarah Wensley and James Haughey, both 17, at the intersection of 22nd Street West and Avenue M while driving impaired.

At the time of the collision, Peeteetuce was behind the wheel without a licence and was fleeing from police in a stolen truck.
In not filing an appeal, the Crown said there was “no reasonable likelihood of finding fault in the ruling.”

As a result, Peeteetuce will continue to serve a little over four years remaining on her sentence.
A young offender, who was a passenger in the truck, was sentenced to three years in jail in January for her involvement.
