TORONTO – A select number of LBCO stores across Ontario are participating in a pilot project that offers 12-packs of beer to its customers.

The test, which began last Thursday, is part of the province’s plan announced earlier this year to expand beer retailing in Ontario.

Thus far, only 10 LCBO outlets have been selected to sell the 12-packs.

Four of them are located in the Greater Toronto area including the Toronto store at Keele St. and Lawrence Ave., the Brampton store at Airport Rd., the Woodbridge store at Hwy. 27 and Innovation Dr. and the Burlington store at Walkers Line and Dundas St.

The other six are located in Ottawa (120 Riocan Avenue), Sudbury (1099 Marcus Drive), Bowmanville (2344 Highway #2), Uxbridge (2B Wellwood Drive, Unit 1 – Quaker Hill Centre), Tecumseh (15 Amy Croft Drive, Unit 2) and Kitchener (721 Ottawa Street South – Alpine Centre Plaza).

Currently, LCBO are only allowed to sell 6-packs and individual beer cans.

The pilot project is linked to the province’s plan to evaluate major public assets and how to better serve taxpayers.

The Premier’s Advisory Council on Government Assets has recommended the expansion of beer sales at Ontario grocery stores, additional retail support to the craft beer industry and entering into a New Beer Framework with the Beer Store.

The council has been working with the LCBO over the past few months to develop and implement the proposals.

It’s unclear if or when the expanded beer sales test phase will be expanded to additional stores.
