TORONTO – When they’re young, parents are supposed to support and take care of their children – because one day, it will be the kids’ turn to take care of their parents.
This simple analogy was touchingly conveyed in a video shot by a Los Angeles man on Tuesday, as he saw a woman carrying her 84-year-old father – so he could go for a “walk” along Redondo Beach.
“When I saw this lady carrying, it’s not easy just to hold him up, walking long, almost one mile,” the man, Fred Chaparli, told CBS Los Angeles. “It was really touching.”
According to Chaparli, he first asked the two if it was ok to film them before capturing the touching moment on his cellphone.
During this conversation, he found out the reason behind this unique walk along the beach: when he was a young man, the 84-year-old dad used to love going for walks and exercising by the beach.
Now in his old age he could no longer stroll through the sandy shores under his own power – so his daughter acts as his support system, helping him to continue his tradition.

“She said, ‘Yeah, of course ‘cause I’m doing this every week,’ ” Chaparli said.
Chaparli posted the video to the CBS Los Angeles Facebook page, where it quickly struck a chord with their readers.
He says he didn’t ask the unidentified father and daughter for their names, and the station is asking anyone who knows their identity (and feels like sharing) to come forward.
For his part, Chaparli said the touching moment gives him hope for his own impending fatherhood.
“There are so many people in rehabs, nursing homes and the kids or family they never go and visit them,” he said. “Even one family changed their mind, this video, it’s good.”
