KELOWNA – If you see smoke coming from the area of the Westside Road Fire, don’t be alarmed. The B.C. Wildfire Service is planning to conduct controlled burns in the area. The fire is currently 85 per cent contained and officials don’t want to see that number decrease.

“These burning operations will take place in a controlled environment within the fire’s perimeter to remove unburnt fuels from the area and decrease the chance of the fire breaching containment lines,” wrote Jordan Turner, a fire information officer, in a news release.

The fire is estimated to be 560 hectares.
