INNISFIL, Ont. – Police in Innisfil, Ont., say a Mississauga man has been arrested and charged in connection with an alleged lottery scam.
South Simcoe police say a 79-year-old woman contacted them in April after being called by someone who claimed to work for the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Commission.
The woman said she had been told she had won $4.5 million in a lottery and was asked to submit two cheques totalling almost $7,000 to cover the cost of an armoured car and armed security guards to deliver the money.
Police say the cheques were sent to an address in Mississauga and cashed.
The investigation led to the arrest of an unidentified 76-year-old Mississauga man on Monday.
He faces two charges of fraud and is scheduled to appear in court in Bradford, Ont., on Sept. 17th.
