WINNIPEG — You can watch live as around 57 000 beluga whales make their 800 kilometre summer migration.
Explore.org attached two cameras to their boat as it follows the belugas on their journey from Hudson Strait to the estuaries formed by the Seal, Nelson and Churchill rivers in Northern Manitoba. The cameras are both being live streamed on their website.
One camera is above water pointing down giving a view of the beluga whales swimming just below the surface. The second camera is hanging under the water giving the viewer an up close look at the whales as they nudge the camera and swim along with the boat.
The belugas are extremely social on their journey and when they reach their destination blowing bubbles and rubbing themselves up against the hulls of boats in the area.
