Paskapoo slopes rezoning one step closer to reality

Suggested redevelopment of Paskapoo Slopes.

CALGARY – City council has passed first reading of a controversial plan to redevelop the East Paskapoo Slopes.

Councillors voted 12 to three in favour of rezoning the area to allow for Trinity Development Group to build a “dynamic urban village.”

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Over 10,000 people have signed an online petition to stop the redevelopment.

If it goes ahead, Trinity Developments says 100 acres of the land would be built on, while they would give the City of Calgary the remaining 160 acres of land to preserve. When combined with another 160 acres of nearby land which the city already owns, it would create a 320 acre regional park.

In total, about 4.7 kilomteres of trails would be destroyed, while 11.3 kilometers would stay intact.
