WATCH: Texas police officer threatens Sandra Bland with Taser in dashcam video

Police dashboard video released Tuesday shows the arrest of Chicago-area woman Sandra Bland. The arrest involves a Texas state trooper threatening to “light her up” with a Taser during a traffic stop in Prairie View, Tx., on July 10.

The Texas Department of Public Safety released the video as U.S. authorities continue to investigate the death of the black woman. Bland was found dead in her jail cell on July 13, three days after the traffic stop.

Investigators had initially said the 28-year-old hanged herself with a plastic garbage bag. However, the Waller County Jail, where she was held, is now under investigation in relation to Bland’s death.

The police video shows Bland being pulled over by Officer Brian Encinia for failing to signal while changing lanes.

What begins as a routine traffic stop quickly turns hostile when the officer asks Bland to put out her cigarette.

“You seem very irritated,” says Encinia in the video.

“I am. I really am … I was getting out of your way. You were speeding up, tailing me, so I move over and you stop me. So, yeah, I am a little irritated but that doesn’t stop you from giving me a ticket,” Bland replies.

Bland refuses to put out her cigarette, then Encinia orders her to step out of the car. She refuses again; the officer opens her car door and repeatedly orders her to step out of the car.

As she continues to be uncooperative, Encinia becomes angry and leans into to try and physically remove her.

“I’m going to yank you out of here,” Encinia says. “I’m going to drag you out of here.”

“Don’t touch me, I’m not under arrest. You don’t have the right to take me out of my car,” Bland says.

The officer then pulls what appears to be a Taser out of his holster and shouts: “Get out of the car. I will light you up. Get out. Now.”

Bland then gets out, walks towards the side of the road with phone in hand, still arguing about being pulled over for failure to signal, while Encinia points the Taser at her back. The confrontation continues off-camera but is still audible as the two yell at each other and the officer puts her in handcuffs.

An initial report by a medical examiner had ruled Bland’s death a suicide, but her family members have insisted she was in good spirits prior to the traffic stop and had just accepted a new job at Prairie View A&M University.

The incident is the latest in a string of high-profile deaths in which black people have died after interactions with law enforcement officials in the U.S.
