Sud-Ouest asked to put its money where its mouth is

WATCH: Residents are fighting back after the Sud-Ouest borough revealed a public trash-shaming campaign. Global’s Tim Sargeant reports.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Some are complaining the parks are filthy with overflowing garbage bins and grass that hasn’t been mowed in weeks.

Several people want borough officials to do more and spruce up the neighbourhood.

Grass in some parks hasn’t been mowed for three weeks; broken glass litters some pedestrian paths. And soccer fields have been worn down to dirt.

“I’m disappointed,” said Isabelle Limoges, the head of the Sud-Ouest Soccer Association.

The city councillor representing St-Henri, Craig Sauvé, told Global News there is a maintenance problem.

Sauvé blames it on budget cuts imposed by the city, but argues there has been some improvement. The number of garbage bins has doubled on commercial roads.
