TORONTO – Social media lit up Thursday evening after heavy smoke was seen wafting from the observation deck of the CN Tower.
Toronto Fire responded to reports of smoke just after 8 p.m. and quickly determined it was related to a fireworks display for the Pan Am Games, which are set to open Friday.
Pan Am spokesperson Heather Irwin confirmed that fireworks were set off from the CN Tower “as part of the dress rehearsal for the Pan Am Games Opening Ceremony.”
Photographs posted to Twitter showed smoke coming from the Toronto landmark leading many to question whether there had been a fire or an explosion.
