MOOSE JAW, Sask. – The lack of rain is having an impact on Saskatchewan’s crop. The latest crop report from the province says the majority of the crops are in poor to good condition.
Rain in the past week ranged from trace amounts to nearly two inches in the west-central region.
Topsoil moisture continues to be a concern, with cropland rated at 67 per cent short or very short. Hay land and pasture topsoil is rated 77 per cent short or very short.

Hay operations continue in much of Saskatchewan despite limited growth due to the lack of precipitation. Producers have 24 per cent of the hay crop cut and 15 per cent baled or in silage however quality is mixed, with 53 per cent rated fair or poor.
Many hay swaths are significantly smaller than normal and producers are concerned hay will be in short supply as pasture conditions continue to deteriorate due to the lack of rainfall.
The Ministry of Agriculture has set up a listing for producers to advertise and source feed products.
